MY SINGAPORE STREETFOOD: DISCOVERING FOOD AND CULTURE

Located at the 2nd level of SM Megamall bridgeway, My Singapore Street Food welcomes its guests.

With the cornucopia of Singaporean food culture, business entrepreneur Jean Henri Lhuillier and Asian TV personality/celebrity chef Vivien Tan recently opened My Singapore Food Street at the 2nd level, Bridgeway of SM Megamall. One could relish Singapore and discover its culture without having to leave the country.  Be prepared to delight in gastronomical experience with an array of signature meals like the Hainanese Chicken and Laksa, appetizers such as Five Spiced Tofu, rice meals like Black Pepper Rice, Nasi Goreng, stir fry dishes like Char Kway Teow and Singaporean favorite Kaya Toast—everything prepared the Singaporean way.

Diners enjoying good food + nice ambiance.

“I shuttle back and forth between Manila and Singapore, two cities I’d like to call home—I figured that the next best thing to do is to open our own restaurant that sells Singaporean fare, with such, there’s no need for me to miss Singaporean dishes anymore,” says Vivien Tan, part owner of My Singaporean Street Food, fashion model, TV host and restaurateur.

Reminiscent of the popular Singapore’s hawker center, My Singapore Street food distinguishes itself from the regular Asian food kiosks that seem to be sprouting like mushrooms in the Metro nowadays. My Singapore Street food comes with a fresh and sleek setting.  I loved their interactive service where instead of just a menu board; friendly staff clad in colorful Asian-inspired prints eagerly explains the dishes. Plus, one can even take a look at how the dishes are being made and prepared with the restaurant’s transparent glass kitchen.

Glass kitchen makes dining even more exciting!

I am a big fan of Asian food, I love the heat and spices and I could happily eat Laksa noodles or anything with sambal sauce every single day and not getting tired eating them. And although I also welcome fusion-inspired dishes, there’s nothing like eating authentic Asian fare at very reasonable prices.

Char Kway Teow

As I browsed over their menu, I’ve noticed the restaurant indeed has a variety of Asian dishes: from Char Kway Teow (Stir fried flat yellow mee noodles, beans sprouts (togue), garlic, red onions, egg, Chinese sausage, fish cake, shrimp and dark soy sauce with Thai fish sauce.) at P195, HokkienMee (Stir fried yellow mee “luglug” noodles, garlic, carrots, red onions, egg, shrimp, squid, fish cake, white pepper and Thai fish sauce.), Spicy MeeGoreng (noodles, garlic, onions, egg, shrimp, tomato sauce, sambal chili and dark soy sauce), NasiGoreng (Sticky rice with egg and sambal chili sauce), Pork and Chicken satay, Black Pepper Beef and Chicken, Lemon Fish and Chicken, all the way down to appetizers: vegetable samosa, croquettes, shanghai roll, spring roll, prata, phpla and kaya toast (toasted sliced white bread with butter coconut jam, best with coffee or milk tea).

But don’t forget to try My Singapore Street Food’s signature meals are the Roast Style Chicken and Hainanese Chicken (Fresh chicken steamed in garlic, ginger, salt and spices) served with Hainanese rice, ginger sauce, sambal chili sauce, dark soy sauce and chicken soup.

During the grand launch and blessing, I also had the chance to witness the art of tea and kopi tarik (yes, they could do it in front of you upon order) demonstration.  And best of all, I’ve tasted their Milo Dinosaur drink, a great way to cap your meal as it satisfies your sweet tooth.
