If you're a potato chips fan like me, you'd be happy to note that Universal Robina Corporation (URC), makers of our favorite snacks, candies, chocolates and ready-to-drink tea has recently collaborated with Calbee--Japan's largest snack food company and has come up with Jack 'n Jill Calbee Potato Chips and Jagabee Fries. The two snack giants has launched these range of potato products through a creatively designed pop-up store.
So what makes these Jack 'n Jill Calbee and Jagabee fries different from all the other potato snacks available in the market today? For one, Jack 'n Jill Calbee potatoes come from the best known production center for potatoes found in Hokkaido, Japan.
Jack 'n Jill Calbee Jagabee used its original method of frying steamed potatoes to offer a crispy texture and pronounced potato flavor of this unique product. They also introduced their unique product--Jack 'n Jill Calbee Jagabee--a first of its kind in the market that offer a snack in a cup.
Jack 'n Jill Calbee Pizza Flavored Potato Chips with Mozzarella Toppings--this is my ultimate favorite among all the potato chips that Jack 'n Jill Calbee has launched. This product had won me over from my first bite. With original technology of producing fried hot potato chips with melted cheese on top was truly awesome. Big in taste and flavor indeed! Love it!
See the mozarella toppings on the ridges of this potato chip?
Jack 'n Jill Calbee Potato Chips are available in three variants: Classic Salted, Cheddar Cheese and Sour Cream and Wasabi flavored.
Cheddar Cheese and Sour Cream--One of my favorites among the variants. When we opened and smelled the bag of Jack 'n Jill Calbee Potato Chips in Cheddar and Sour Cream flavor, we didn’t get much, which led to complete amazement as the first bite was taken. The flavor magicians at Jack 'n Jill Calbee have created an absolutely delicious chip that blew us away in steps and surprised even our trained mouths. The reason why I love Jack 'n Jill Calbee Cheddar Cheese and Sour Cream so much is because the onion plays off the cheese so well. And I am surprised yet again because its got none of its usually greasy texture that comes with potato chips flavored with cheese. I wondered, however, where the cheese flavor was amazed that just as the sour cream taste dissipated, it was instantly replaced by a perfect cheddar ending.
The flavor was perfectly crafted and the fact that two very distinct tastes (sour cream and cheddar) could hit independently, over a matter of seconds, shows that the company didn’t simply season these chips with the leftovers of the two varieties lying around in the factory.
These chips need absolutely no dip to go with, and have a nice enough flavor to not overpower as a side, while being more than adequate as a standalone munchie treat. If you are looking for a cheap(er) snack with a great taste, this is an absolute must munch.
The Classic Salted--I love the taste of the chips and how they are all-natural. I'm pretty sure everyone will like these thinly sliced potato chips with a bit salty taste. They have a nice crunch to them both in your mouth and in your ears. And unlike other potato chip bags, Jack 'n Jill Calbee Potato Chips don't put too much air in their bags. You're paying for all the goodness of real potato chips and not just the air in the bag. You won't be disappointed for the lack of chips in the bag.
I tried eating Jack 'n Jill Calbee Potato Chips with chicken fingers and they really compliment the meal. I love the crisp of the chips and the amount of salt that is sprinkled over them. They are just perfect! These chips are not too salty and have no cholesterol or sugar. I highly recommend you have them at parties or get-togethers. My guests love when I bring out a bowl of these chips with ranch dip.
Wasabi Flavor--If you're not fan of wasabi or anything spicy, then I suggest you to skip this. But my first impulse upon opening a bag of these chips was to sniff. The first taste I got when I popped a bunch of these Wasabi flavored Jack 'n Jill Calbee Potato Chips was the release of a horseradish wasabi flavor. It wasn't completely bold though, my eye didn't water like when I normally eat a real wasabi...but the flavor profile was clear--the pureness of wasabi flavor was present. It had a bit tangy spicy on the edges of my tongue that felt distinctly Japanese. I think as Asians, we will enjoy this chips. They're not the boldest flavor but I think these definitely had that great umami taste I was seeking.
Jack 'n Jill Calbee Jagabee Fries in Classic Salted, Cheese and Garlic--Whole potatoes cut in their skins offered a new texture never been seen in the country yet simply salted to highlight the quintessential taste of real potatoes.
